Young IT Consulting is the practice of Shannon Young, a systems engineer with over two decades inside organisations where infrastructure failure was not an option.
Background
My career runs through global game studios, financial institutions, public healthcare, and telecommunications across Canada and Australia. Roles at EA, Central 1, Queensland Health, OnTheNet, and Mercury IT put me inside build pipelines serving international studios, payment infrastructure for credit unions, clinical systems that cannot go down, and the networks and managed services that businesses depend on.
That experience covers virtualisation platforms, enterprise storage, networking, monitoring, automation, and more recently AI systems: local LLM deployments, retrieval over organisational knowledge, and workflow automation that removes manual work.
Why small and medium business
SME deserves the same engineering discipline enterprises pay for: documentation, monitoring, tested backups, and decisions made for the five year horizon rather than the invoice. Young IT exists to deliver exactly that, at a scale where you deal directly with the engineer.
How I work
- Diagnose before prescribing. The problem defines the technology, never the reverse.
- Document everything. You own your systems and the knowledge of how they run.
- Build for maintainability. Resilience comes from architecture, not heroics.
- Straight answers. If something is not worth doing, I will say so.
